Choose Your Sampling Site(s).

You may choose any surface water body that is of interest to you. This could be a lake, pond, wetland, slough, river, stream, creek, irrigation canal, ditch or reservoir.

* If you are going to sample on private land, obtain permission from the landowner before accessing the site.

Make sure to record where you are sampling, using one or more of the techniques below, so that you can share this information with us:

  • Use Google Maps, at www.awqa.ca to locate your site. Access the map by clicking on Data Entry and then entering your Test Kit ID.
  • Record the legal land description of your sampling site on your field data sheet.
  • Take and record the GPS coordinates of your sampling location on your field data sheet

Do Not Compromise Safety in Order to Collect a Sample! The most important aspect of choosing a sample location is SAFETY.

In Summary

a) Choose one or more surface water bodies that are of interest to you

b) Decide where you are going to sample along each waterbody (you may sample more than one location on a waterbody)

c) Record your sampling location on the field data sheet

d) Consider your safety. If you cannot safely sample the water at your sample site, select another location.
