A Huge Success!

In 2006, the number of people participating in AWQA Day nearly doubled! Together, 2,768 people, including students, families and landowners, collected water quality results from 966 sites across Alberta as part of this provine-wide education and awareness event.  The water was tested for basic water quality parameters: temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and turbidity.

2006 Water Quality Results

Dissolved Oxygen (DO): DO levels in the surface waterways tested during AWQA Day were typically in the 4 or 8 ppm range, with percent saturation ranging from 31-100%. See a map of DO findings.

pH: The majority of surface waters tested had a pH between 7 and 10, with a few waterbodies having a pH of 5 or 6. See a map of pH findings. 

Water Temperature: The various waterways tested, from ponds and dugouts to rivers and wetlands, had temperatures ranging from 1oC to >25oC. See a map of water temperature findings. 

Turbidity: Some waters were clear and had low turbidity (0 JTU), while others had very high turbidity (100 JTU) and low water clarity. See a map of turbidity findings.
